One of the intriguing but often overlooked aspects of Schleiermacher’s thinking is his preoccupation with the future. It reaches from individual and social educational programs to the raising of divination – thus a prophetic way of reading – up to the guideline of the hermeneutic-critical procedure. By combining the religiously and theologically grounded certainty about what is going to come with a vast opening of the temporal horizon, Schleiermacher takes up an inventive position in the futuristic debates around 1800, which seems worth to be considered in today’s concerns about the future.
The lecture takes place in attendance, online participation is possible.
Schleiermacher Symposium
The Schleiermacher Symposium 2023 on “Schleiermachers Christliche Sittenlehre. Krisen und Potentiale” [engl. Schleiermacher’s Christian Moral Teaching. Crises and Potentials] will take place from November 30th to December 2nd, 2023 in Wittenberg.
